Brewery: Bude Brewery
Bottle Size: 500ml
Taste:A balanced hoppy and sweet flavouring, which really makes you take note
Aroma:Hoppy, malty, hints of honey
If I’m being honest, I selected this beer on the strength of the label. I was looking for beers from local breweries, and found a great range in Purely Cornish shop in Looe. The branding on this one made it stand out instantly.
Now, with a choice based purely on aesthetics, there’s always a danger that the drink won’t quote compare. That danger is completely unfounded in this one. The colour, aroma, taste and everything about this beer is appealing.
The flavour feels unique. A lot of golden ales seem to be quite relaxed and almost weak in flavour, perhaps being cautious to ensure drinkability. Bude haven’t been cautious here. There is a strength and depth in the flavourings, which really leave an impression. This is not a criticism because the balance is beautiful, and it just makes the beer feel complex and each sip provides something a little different.
The more I drink, the more I want to drink. That’s a rare feeling for me, and I’m a little disappointed that I only bought the one bottle. Now I feel the need to get more, and to try more of the Bude offerings. Next time I’m in Looe, I’ll be paying that shop another visit…I might even drive a bit further and head straight to the brewery instead!
